Kermit and Elmo discuss bipolar disorder

Unrelated: the Children's Television Workshop has unfortunately named this linked video "Bert and Ernie Water Sports." At least when I last looked.

Atlanta crime: FBI says down, I call bull****.

Other people have written on the subject of what Creative Loafing now refers to as not crime, but the Perception of Crime (TM) that Mayor Shirley Franklin and police chief Pennington blame as to why Atlanta residents scream about increasing crime, even though her honor and Chief Pennington say it's down, nothing to see here, move along people.

Intownwriter has written eloquently, with a list of Atlanta's greatest 2009 crime hits, in response to news yesterday that according to statistics, violent crime is down in the ATL, though recent news proves otherwise.

Such as when city council prez Lisa Borders had her condo broken into.

Or when a Georgia Tech student was robbed and shot.

Or when John Henderson was killed during a robbery at The Standard.

Or when an Americorps van in front of my house was broken into (BTW, guys, pick up all that trash that you left in the corner lot. Kthx.)

Or when two men were recently stabbed at Piedmont Park.

Statistically, crime might have gone down in 2008. But 2009 is shaping up to be something else, and I have no doubt in my mind that both violent and property crimes will increase.

Jim Wooten, AJC's soon-to-be-retired conservative columnist, has a screed this AM about Atlanta crime. I'm sure the ever excellent Griftdrifter will be along with a commentary with his signature My Morning Wooten series.

Help Attractive Eighties Women

The totally outrageous and awesome ATL outfit, Attractive Eighties Women (of which an old Red and Black colleague is a member), needs assistance to get their next album pressed. Help 'em out, dammit.

Listen to the music here.
